What is the Libra?
The Libra is a negative pressure (vacuum)
microdermabrasion device that is manufactured by Edge
Systems, a U.S. company, for Syneron Medical Ltd., one of
the three leading manufacturers of aesthetic devices
worldwide.
How does the Libra work?
The Libra uses corundum crystals, which are swept
across the skin at high velocity within a treatment
tip. The crystals abrade the epidermis to “polish” the
surface of the skin. This uniform, microscopic
exfoliation leaves the skin smooth and
glowing.
How often are treatments done?
Microdermabrasion treatments can be done 7-10
days apart. Usually 5-7 treatments are needed to
optimally improve the
skin’s reflectance, texture and tone.

Can microdermabrasion be done in
combination with
other skin rejuvenation treatments?
Microdermabrasion is highly recommended in conjunction
with having other skin rejuvenation treatments. It can
be done two weeks following—or one week prior to—elos™
laser treatments to rejuvenate skin and reduce
wrinkles. Microdermabrasion helps to slough off the
darkened pigment as it rises to the surface following
elos™
laser treatments as well as helps the laser penetrate the skin surface more
effectively and completely.
Can the Libra be used for acne
treatment?
The Libra is a wonderful adjunct to acne therapy
because keratin clumping in pores contributes to acne
development. Regular microdermabrasion treatments keep
the pores unplugged and help prevent new lesions from
forming.
What is unique about Libra
microdermabrasion?
The Libra system is exceptionally quiet. Many other
systems are extremely loud to operate. Also, streaking
lines from uneven or overly aggressive suction is not
a common occurrence, as it can be with some other
systems.
How well do people tolerate Libra
microdermabrasion?
The procedure is very tolerable. Most
patients describe a light, scratchy sensation as the
crystals sweep across the skin, and afterward, the
skin may appear
slightly pink or flushed for a brief
period of time. A full facial treatment takes about 20
minutes.
